NorCal Sheltie Rescue
NorCal Sheltie Rescue places homeless purebred Shelties in approved homes throughout Northern California, north from Bakersfield to the Oregon border and east from the Pacific coast to the state line.
The 501.c[3] public benefit organization rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes Shelties who have lost their homes through no fault of their own.
NorCal Sheltie Rescue adopts out purebred Shelties needing new homes for a variety of reasons. They screen and approve adopters across Northern California after they’ve completed an application form.
If you have a Sheltie that you can no longer keep for any reason, contact NorCal Sheltie Rescue (see link below). They will match an approved, pre-screened Sheltie lover to your Sheltie. Dogs that cannot be immediately be adopted are placed in loving foster care until a suitable home can be found.
On average, 40 adult Shelties are placed in good homes each year.

Hot Rescues
NorCal Sheltie Rescue has rescued “Marbles” (later renamed Marvel) a 2-year-old blue merle Shetland Sheepdog who was found wandering a construction site in Inchon, South Korea.
Marbles arrived at SFO on April 18 and was picked up by members of NorCal Sheltie Rescue. He spent a week in transit with stops at NorCal Sheltie Rescue foster homes in Burlingame and El Dorado Hills before the right forever family was given to him.
Here’s a report from his first night in California from airport reception foster host Janine Poimiroo who wrote, “Marbles is a very happy dog… he was sitting up in his crate when I said good morning; he jumped up and his tail started wagging. He was so happy. He is a “Marvel”. (This became his forever name).
“Last night after dinner I spent over 2 hours… combing and brushing him. There was not one complaint, if I pulled too hard he would just glance at me with a look as if to say ‘easy.’ I filled my kitchen garbage can with the fur that came off him, and it was empty before I started.
“When I went to bed I placed him in the crate and I left the TV on as a night light with the volume at a whisper… I left the door open to the hall and he was quiet all night.
“This morning when I let him out you could see his joy as he romped around the back yard. I’m sure he would have been in heaven if he had someone else to run with. He is eating well and LOVES the food, especially Cherrios. He keeps nudging me and gives me his ‘Poor Pitiful Pearl’ look for a Cherrio. Marbles has me wrapped around his paw in less than 24 hours. He is going to make someone a very happy and loving companion.”
In his first day as a Rescue, Marvel learned sit and down “hand” commands. By the end of his first week, he could also: watch, wait, leave it, fetch, go outside, inside and potty on command.
Marvel was placed in a “foster to adopt” home in Pinole, where he is joyfully following his new forever mistress and master all over their home and yard and “in heaven” playing with a puppy companion. He is, at last, safe at home.
